My Outlook On Health & Fitness
Health and fitness has been a huge part of my life since I can remember. Being a ballerina, I had to make sure I was making healthy choices, not only to stay lean but also to stay strong. I used to think that anything "Low Fat" was healthy & would constantly scrutinize the fat content of everything I ate. Now I know that's not necessarily the case. A lot of foods claiming to be lower in fat can also be higher in sugar & calories. It's really important to look at labels & understand the ingredients.
My outlook on food has completely changed from when I was younger. I use to think I was healthy by only eating "Low Fat" foods but now I understand the importance of balance & healthy fats. I don't know how I ever lived without Avocado Toast or Roasted Sweet Potatoes! Now I try to stay away from processed foods, I try to buy as organic as I can & I avoid anything deep fried. Of course I have my cheat days (or nights!), believe me I love nothing more than a nice glass of red wine and a cheese plate, but for the most part I really try to eat as clean as possible & drink lots & lots of water!
I'm not vegan, non dairy or even gluten free & I personally don't believe that cutting those things out makes you healthier. To me it's about balance & making healthy choices. I've become passionate about cooking & I cook as often as I can. I just love knowing that everything I'm putting into mine & my family's body is fresh, healthy & made with love. I'm not a chef by any means but I can follow a recipe & put a decent meal together & I enjoy it! Cooking is a way of winding down for me. It's so important to teach children these days the importance of being healthy & to expose them to lots of different kinds of flavors & cuisines.
I grew up eating a lot of Mediterranean food. I'm half Greek on my Dad's side & some of my fondest memories as a kid was my mum or dad in the kitchen & lots of people around our table. My vegetables & salads were always drizzled with Olive Oil & Lemon Juice so those are two staples in my kitchen. I have bought some Greek cook books & I'm trying to master some of my Grandmother's (Yaya's) dishes.
Aside from food I LOVE to workout & be active. Being a dancer I'm used to sweating every single day. I try to mix it up these days but my favorite workouts are Yoga (I mean like hardcore power Yoga!) TRX ( its basically a strap that you tie to something and use your own body weight to do different exercises, its amazing), running & swimming. I work out as often as I can, not only for weight management (because when you love food as much as I do..you gotta!) but it always puts me in a good mood & makes me feel good. Doing things that make YOU feel good is really the most important thing.
I would love to hear your thoughts & opinions on health & fitness & please feel free to share your tips with me! Remember these are just my thoughts & beliefs & the things that work for me & make me feel good.
Thanks so much for reading guys!
Wishing you Love, Health & Happiness,
